One great advantage of the Back to Nature backgrounds is that you can place the entire filter behind the background. There is so much space available for the filter material that you can build a biological filter which will last for years without needing to be cleaned.


1. A filter system can be arranged in several ways. Here we have used one sheet of filter foam (PPI 10) 100x100x5 cm that is cut into small pieces of approx. 2x2.5x3 cm.


2. These filter foam sheet squares may also be purchased as pre-cut.


3. Here you will see an example of a filter system, viewed from behind the aquarium. The water inlet is on the right side, the outlet on the left side, and the space between is filled with filter foam. This type of filter system will work for many years without needing to be cleaned. If the filter stops working, it is most likely a piece of filter foam at the top of the right side that has become blocked in which case this is very easy to clean.
